This is a bi-monthly newsletter on joy. 🌿
Joy as in: what is bringing me joy, exploring strategies for ensuring we individually, and communally, have the right to experience joy, on the grief and blocks that are a part of creating joy, on the patterns of oppression that go into who is seen as deserving of joy, on pleasure, delight, and dreaming.
My joys span worlds: love poems, fonts that make me 😍, work that is leading us towards reimagining and remixing this world, liberation, queerness, Blackness, imagination, vegan muffins and my latest playlists.
Joining this newsletter costs less than the price of a latte at $5 a mo.

Why Paid Only?
Your investment in my work is an extension of gratitude - and I want to pour my whole heart out to you for your support. By investing in my work, you’re (1.) investing in the growth of my dreams of building larger art projects, (2.) paying visiting artists and dreamers that are a part of this community’s events, and (3.) donating funds to other QTBIPOC organizations and collectives, as 15% of my monthly newsletter proceeds are donated to a rotating monthly QTBIPOC organization.
February’s donation will be going to Arm The Girls, a Bay Area mutual aid initiative putting power and safety directly into the hands of black and indigenous queer and trans femmes of color.
The remainder funds will be used to invest in two main projects:
Building a digital platform that lists Black-led ecosystems and directories
Beginning my filming project on QTBIPOC friendships, and paying those that are a part
To keep this space as accessible as possible, if you’re unable to afford the paid subscription, but would still like to receive this newsletter, please send me your email address at firstname.lastname@example.org and I will send you a free 3 month subscription.
Yesss ok sounds cool - but who dis?
Hi 👋🏽. I’m Annika Hansteen-Izora (they/she/he). I’m a queer, genderfluid bi-racial Black dreamer that does a lot of things, many of which are rooted in writing, dreaming, a love for vegan dumplings and making playlists. In consolidated form, I’m a writer, artist, poet, playlist curator, art director, and brand, UI, and product designer.
My day job is Creative Director of UI and Design for:
Somewhere Good: a social platform designed for people of color to connect around the things we love, to be released in 2021.
Ethel’s Club: a social and wellness club designed to celebrate people of color, online and IRL.
Form No Form: a 24 hour content channel featuring independent films by artists of color.
I’m also one of the co-leaders of Black Feast, a culinary event that celebrates Black artists and writers through food, Bad Ball Club, a queer BIPOC space for pickup soccer and kickball games, and the forthcoming Platonic Love Club film series, exploring the intimacy of BIPOC friendships.
You can find me on Instagram, Twitter, my Website, and Are.na.
Thank You for Your Support
Supporting me allows me to make and do more, then share it on the internet. I dream of larger projects rooted in connecting us all, and supporting those projects requires investment. Your support is an investment in creating larger spanning work. I couldn’t do this work without you, thank you endlessly. 💘
